This training module provides a comprehensive overview of Merchant Due Diligence, Digital Payment Frauds, and AML risks, which are critically important for Payment Aggregators and Acquiring Banks. It emphasizes the need for robust Know Your Merchant (KYM) controls, including KYM in special circumstances. The module is aligned with regulatory expectations set by the RBI and AML obligations under the PMLA. It covers common Merchant Fraud & AML typologies such as shell/front merchants, account takeover, and transaction laundering, while providing guidance on effective onboarding, risk assessment, and ongoing monitoring practices. Most importantly, it also covers Merchant side weaknesses-, customer abuse patterns and potential fraud & AML indicators in payment flows. Overall, the training aims to strengthen compliance and risk management frameworks for Payment Aggregators and clarify the roles and responsibilities of acquiring banks facilitating non-bank PAs.
